Housing is, and always will be, a political issue. There are dozens of lobbying groups with a strong interest in housing policy.

There does not appear to be any serious political opposition to the growth of a healthy private rental sector, although there has been some concern that competition particularly with first time buyers might add to the pressure on house prices.
